Slicing (Crew Skills)

Rewards · Mission Discoveries · Trainers

"Slicing is the art of accessing secure computer systems and lockboxes to acquire valuable items, credits and rare tech schematics. Common slicing targets include electronic safes, data stations, security mainframes and biometric footlockers. These targets contain credits, rare tech schematics used to construct Cybertech gadgets, vehicles and space upgrades, and mission discovery objects that unlock challenging missions that can potentially yield great rewards. Slicers can send their companions on missions to retrieve these items. Slicing missions can return with rare tech parts used to construct prototype and artifact augments. These can be slotted into exceptionally crafted items. Other possible mission rewards include augment schematics that can be learned by armormechs, armstechs and synthweavers.

Recommended Crafting Skills: All (for mission discoveries), Armormech, Armstech, Cybertech (for tech schematics) and Synthweaving.

thumb|300px|right Slicing is a Gathering Crew Skill which involves accessing secured computer systems and lockboxes to acquire valuable data and rare schematics. Sending your companion to do Slicing missions can be quite profitable, especially if you have multiple companions to work for you at the same time. Taking Slicing, along with a Crafting and another Gathering crew skill, seems to be a good choice for players who do not have a profitable high-end credit making source.

Slicing is currently the most profitable gathering skill, producing profit in actual credits for almost every mission you send your companion on. However, with Patch 1.0.1, the rewards have been reduced. Players have yet to determine the overall effects of the change. When doing missions, you can pick between augment missions or lockbox missions. Lockbox missions are the profitable ones, and yield credit boxes often containing many more credits in them than you spent on the mission. However, slicing doesn't yield any crafting materials so players interested in crafting will have to buy their materials from other players on the Global Trade Network . In many players' minds slicing is only a crew skill to use until they reach level 50. Utilizing slicing in this manner will add a large supplemental income on the side with very little effort. If you plan on using Slicing make sure you are running multiple missions at a time with more than 1 companion. It is worth noting that Augment missions are usually not profitable, since their only use during leveling is to be placed into an "Augment slot" that is only found in exceptionally crafted gear pieces - which are quite rare during leveling.
