It's taken me much longer than originally intended to return to this topic, but the holidays have a tendency to grow until they dominate all of your free hours. About a month ago I began a blog discussion intended to help us define the scope of this project as we proceed toward the game's launch some time later this year. A lot was said, primarily by me, but several points were agreed upon. Or at least, two points were not the subject of disagreement:

  • The primary focus of this project is documentation of the game Star Wars: The Old Republic.
  • Source citation of material, especially before the launch of the game, needs to become a focus of this project.

Of the two remaining topics discussed, we need to come to a decision. A simple vote, though straightforward, does not allow for variation in opinion. That said, it is also important to weigh everyone's thoughts on these subjects equally. Therefore, I will number and list each item to be considered. I ask everyone interested in contributing to this decision review the discussion resulting from my previous blog post, and reply and rate how he or she feels each item is of importance to the project on a scale from 1 to 10.

A rating of 1 indicates that you feel the item is unimportant to the project, and should be abandoned or re-purposed elsewhere, while a rating of 10 indicates that you feel the item is vital to the project's future, or that the item's exclusion would render us unable to document Star Wars: The Old Republic. Additionally, feel free to provide comment that describes the reason(s) for your ratings, and edit your patings post should you change your mind about any of the items.

I ask that everyone try to set their personal opinions aside, and base their ratings solely on what the feel will best serve our primary goal: the documentation of the Bioware's Star Wars: The Old Republic. The process will end in two weeks time, on Thursday, January 27.

Item 1: Documentation of KotOR and KotORII
Should we include full documentation of game content unique to KotOR and KotORII? Or should we leave the documentation of such content to a separate project, linking to that project, and Wookieepedia, except as needed to directly explain elements present within Star Wars: The Old Republic?

A rating of 1 indicates KotOR and KotORII specific content should be excluded from this project entirely, except as absolutely necessary to describe elements within Star Wars: The Old Republic. A rating of 10 indicates that such content should not only be included within the project, but should also be a primary focus of our documentation.

Item 2: Inclusion of EU Content
Should we include Expanded Universe content pertaining to Star Wars: The Old Republic and, if we decide to include them in this project, KotOR and KotORII? Or should we limit ourselves specifically to the game(s), leaving such content to be covered by Wookieepedia, and linking to that project as necessary?

A rating of 1 indicates EU content should be excluded from the project entirely, save what is absolutely necessary to describe elements within our primary focus. A rating of 10 indicates that EU content specific to our primary focus should be included fully.
